Earthship Community- El Prado, New Mexico

https://www.earthshipglobal.com/

The dogs and I left sweet Santa Fe and headed to Toas, NM. There are a few good wineries to visit along the way if you take the high road. The reds are ok but the champagne and port seem to be the best productions coming out of NM vineyards thus far. What a beautiful drive worth the extra time. When I arrived to my airbnb rental it was a disaster of a location, directly behind a loud car-wash with the sound of vacuums running non-stop. After calling airbnb corporate office, I decided not to wait around and instantly found an earthship for rent, 11 minutes away in El Prado. I had no idea how amazed I would be by this community and way of living!

An earthship is a type of passive solar house that is made of both natural and up-cycled materials such as earth-packed tires. Architect Michael Reynolds pioneered this invention to address six principles:

  1. Thermal/solar heating and cooling

  2. solar and wind electricity

Read my travel blog of the epic journeys with my 2 pitbull mix breed dogs in a Volvo C-30 from Asheville NC to Sedona AZ and back. The goal is to not only relax and rejuvenate but also to absorb operational pros and cons from my most admired spas, seek out small unique spas especially off the grid and eco friendly architecture, and soak in as many hotspring mineral waters as possible. This valuable information collected will be integrated in enhancing my spa, "Mantra" in Cashiers NC, and my consultant skills for my new boutique spa solutions company in the making.

Blue Desert Hale a Retreat and Learning Center
Escabosa, New Mexico

Mission: Attend a 4 day cranial sacral intensive specific to working with the sphenoid bone. Consult with owner regarding business development, Social media enhancements, logo work and future retreat expansion and fundraising possibilities.

My arrival at Blue Desert Hale felt like going through the gateway to the real west after my long drive from Hot Springs Arkansas (See Previous Blog). Escabosa is about 30 minutes outside of Albuquerque. A rural desert oasis with long range views that slope gradually down which almost mimic an ocean view in the distance. After a very long gravel road drive in, I was immediately drawn to the eclectic off the grid home and greenhouse, solar panels glistening in the sun. My dogs popped out of the car quick and made friends with the local pack of canines and we all instantly felt a deep state of peace. The retreat is owned by license...

The purpose of this blog is to share my spa experiences while traveling from my home town of Asheville NC to Sedona AZ and back. I attended Massage school 15 years ago in Sedona and am often called back there to recharge. January 1st of this year I sold my home In Gorges State Park and committed to taking this journey with my two big dogs, in a Volvo C-30, across the nation to indulge in spa life and interview a few of the top spas that inspired me to open my own spa, Mantra Integrative Spa, in Cashiers NC.

The writing will be from three points of view: the consumer, the spa owner, and the spa business consultant/ solution finder. Below lists my research criteria, I am seeking out top grossing spas that have at least three of these traits:

  • Strives to be eco-friendly and promotes kindness to the earth, looking for recycling, off grid systems, rain water capture, no plastics, organic gardens, solar technology, house made beauty products, and architecture that blends with nature.

Winter, time for dry heat, wool socks, dehydration and dry skin. No worries, here are a few methods I stick to in the cold months that really help keep scaly dry skin gone!

  1. Drink at least 48 ounces of water a day. Thats only 6 glasses a day, 2 of which should be consumed as soon as you wake up to replenish the loss of fluids while you sleep. 8-10 glasses is where you want to work up to.

  2. Use pure food-grade oil, such as sesame, avocado, jojoba, grapeseed or coconut oil on your skin, head to toe, do this fresh out of the warm shower daily. If your hair is dry apply the oil from the ends to scalp, place a plastic bag around your head and leave in over night. When you wash out your hair and dry the next day you will feel super soft hair shafts and reduced frizz.

  3. Take daily oils internally, such as a spoonful or two of coconut, flax or evening primrose oil.

  4. Sleep with an aromatherapy vaporizer, nightly by your bed, add essential oils to kill bacteria and fight virus's...

BEYOND MASSAGE Part 1

Most of us think massage falls into the “luxury” category of life, perhaps only to be indulged in on a vacation, if at all. Only 18% of the total American population received a massage in 2015. Although most towns have a massage therapist on every corner and we can schedule an appointment on our smart devices in a matter of minutes, this seems like such a slow increase in the industry. An average of 32 percent of adult Americans received a massage in the previous five years. The numbers have only increased by a few percent since I went to school In Sedona 15 years ago. People research massage therapy for a variety of reasons. The largest group of massage therapy seekers are those who are looking for relief from medical issues and pain. The second largest group are those who fall into the stress release, relaxation and general pampering category.

These statistics are pretty black and white. Once you have received several personal massage sessions, you will see...
